Fox Chase Awarded Magnet Status for Excellence in Nursing

Congratulations to the Fox Chase nurses for receiving re-designation as a Magnet facility. This is the American Nurses Association's highest honor.

Thanks to superb nursing specialists, Fox Chase Cancer Center can offer each patient the highest quality care.

Fox Chase Cancer Center was the 19th institution in the country to receive the Magnet Nursing Services Recognition Award and the third to be re-designated. Magnet institutions are recognized nationally for their commitment to quality nursing care. The Center is also the first in Pennsylvania and the first acute specialty hospital in the country to receive Magnet status.

"The overall goal of the program is to identify excellence in nursing and to recognize institutions that act as a 'magnet' by creating a work environment that recognizes and rewards professional nursing," says Joanne Hambleton, Vice-President, Nursing and Patient Services.

The Magnet Nursing Recognition Program was established in 1993. Institutions applying for Magnet status must pass a rigorous review, designed to demonstrate superior nursing and excellence in patient care. Magnet status is valid for four years, after which the recipient must reapply.

"We believe in the individual and group excellence of our nursing staff, and now a national review board has also recognized our nurses for their superb quality of care," says Hambleton.

"The Magnet status has created very tangible results for Fox Chase Cancer Center," says Fox Chase chancellor and immediate past president Robert C. Young. "It has enhanced recruitment and retention of highly qualified professional nurses - thus, facilitating consistent delivery of quality patient care."
