Reference Services

The Reference Desk is staffed Monday through Friday from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Reference assistance and questions can be answered in person, by telephone at 215.728.2711 or via email. The library's email address is Lib_Reference@fccc.edu.

Online Search Services / Mediated Search Service

Librarians can access a broad range of database systems including OVID, the National Library of Medicine's PubMed, DIALOG, Factiva, and STN. Internet searching is also available.These database systems index a variety of subject areas including biomedicine, nursing, and chemistry, as well as areas of business and social science. Each search is customized to the requester's needs and is usually provided in 24 hours; on-demand service can also be arranged. To request an online bibliographic search, patrons may telephone a librarian directly, fill out a Search Request form, or e-mail the request. Database costs are charged back to the requester's cost center, or are billed directly to the requester.

Online Search Services / End User Searching

The Talbot Research Library offers training and assistance to patrons who are interested in performing their own database searches. Sessions may be scheduled upon request for PubMed or Ovid Medline, CINAHL, Web of Science, Current Contents Connect, Web searching, or Endnote. Library users may obtain their own accounts for OVID Medline, or Ovid Online (pay-as-you-go). Interested users should contact the library staff for a password and training. Training seminars are given by the librarians, or individual sessions may be scheduled. All fees incurred by the end user (password fee, online charges, etc.) will be charged back to that user's cost center on a monthly basis.
