Heller Joins Fox Chase's Department of Medicine

PHILADELPHIA (September, 2008) — Stephen J. Heller, MD, a gastroenterologist and therapeutic endoscopist, has joined Fox Chase's department of medicine as an attending physician in the gastroenterology section.

"As therapeutic endoscopists, we have the ability to intervene in precancerous conditions and early cancers, thereby preventing cancer from taking hold," Heller explains.  "At Fox Chase, with our unique patient population, access to state-of-the-art technology, and the support and expertise of my colleagues, there will be ample opportunity to do so—for example, in patients with premalignant disease of the esophagus, large polyps of the colon and rectum, and early tumors of the stomach."

Board-certified in gastroenterology, Heller received his MD from Columbia University in New York. He completed his residency at Stanford University Hospital.

Heller held fellowships in gastroenterology at Boston's Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and in advanced therapeutic endoscopy at Wellesley.
