Matthew Wetherhold

I have been working in the field of reconstructive plastic surgery for the past six years. During this time I have been involved with the care of numerous patients and have seen firsthand the importance that reconstruction provides the cancer patient, both physically and mentally.

After surgery or treatment, reconstruction can be the silver lining for most cancer patients. Whether it's giving a Head & Neck patient the ability to swallow and speak clearly or a woman, after mastectomy, the appearance of normalcy with breast reconstruction.

Unfortunately, cancer not only affects the person but also their close family members as well. I see my role in a patient's care as a liaison between the patient and their surgeon. I enjoy taking the time to provide answers to their questions and help relieve fears that "normally" arise with the diagnosis of cancer. From the initial consult through the surgery and to the final visit, my goal is to treat the patient as I would want one of my own family members to be treated."

Working at Fox Chase Cancer Center has provided me the opportunity to work personally with surgeons, physicians, and other physician assistants who share this common goal.
