Research Interests:

I chose to do my fellowship training at Fox Chase Cancer Center because of its excellent reputation for teaching and producing outstanding oncologists. After completing my training in 2000, I joined the medical oncology staff at Fox Chase because it remains one of the nation's premier hospitals for both cancer treatment and research. The multidisciplinary team approach to cancer care is of utmost importance. I am fortunate to work with such dedicated physicians, researchers and ancillary staff.
My area of interest is to develop new cancer therapies that will take oncology care into the next era. There is a great need to develop more effective treatments with fewer side effects for all types of cancers. As such, I care for patients with a wide variety of solid tumors with an emphasis on gastrointestinal, breast and genitourinary cancers.
I believe one of the most effective tools we have as doctors is providing patient education. It is imperative that my patients understand all of their treatment options, outcomes and possible side effects. Often, the best treatment option is an opportunity to receive a promising new drug on a clinical trial. As they navigate the treatment decision-making process, patients and their families can sometimes feel overwhelmed. I enjoy taking the time to explain these various options so that each patient completely understands the planned course of treatment.
The research opportunities at Fox Chase are endless. I serve as associate director of the Phase I Clinical Trials Program. The Phase I Program at Fox Chase presents a rich menu of promising therapies in collaboration with the pharmaceutical industry and the National Cancer Institute. This program is multi-departmental and multi-specialty with considerable resources designed to move innovative cancer therapies from the laboratory bench to patients as quickly as possible. My hope is that these novel treatments ultimately prevent this potentially devastating disease from having such an impact on patients with cancer and their families.
