My interest in oncology nursing started when I was in my undergraduate program. I was involved in a work-study program at the National Cancer Institute. It was during that summer in the early 70's that led me to continuing as an oncology nurse after graduation. My interests continued to be fostered while serving as the US Army Nurse at Letterman Army Medical Center in San Francisco.

In the fall of 1988, I had the pleasure of joining the Fox Chase Cancer Center nursing team. I served as the clinical manager in the clinical research unit. During 7 years in this position, I had 24-hour responsibility for managing the unit. Thereafter, I became the clinical nurse specialist for Peripheral Blood Stem Cell Program. While working as a Clinical Nurse Specialist, I returned to school and obtained a post-master's Nurse Practitioner Certificate.

By the middle of 1997, as a nurse practitioner I was able to fill a new role in this department. I work closely with patients with hematologic malignancies and their families to assist them in meeting their medical needs and to educate them about their disease and course of treatment. It can be challenging to navigate your way through the system and I enjoy helping my patients on their difficult journey. During much of my career I have been in management positions. It is through these roles, working closely with patients, that has been the most gratifying part of my career.
