A diagnosis of lung cancer or a brain tumor has a devastating impact on my patients' lives. Since I have been a practicing radiation oncologist, I have learned that laughter and a positive attitude can make an incredible difference not only for my patients, but also for myself.

My philosophy has been to focus on the positive aspects of each patient's situation. I encourage my patients to set goals during the course of treatment so they can get through this difficult time and return to normalcy as soon as possible. I believe this outlook--combined with excellent and personalized treatment--has a positive effect on my patients.

When I came to Fox Chase Cancer Center in 2002, I had just completed my training at a top stereotactic radiosurgery program in the country. With this background, I developed the stereotactic radiosurgery program at Fox Chase.

In addition, I established the stereotactic body radiotherapy program for lung and spine tumors. These treatments use the most sophisticated technologies here at Fox Chase Cancer Center, such as CT localization in the treatment room, IMRT with micromultileaf collimation and 4-dimensional CT simulation. We continually strive to improve patient outcomes. One way will be with the use of real-time tumor tracking in the near future.

During my training, I took a special interest in head and neck cancers. I have since become an active member of the head and neck cancer treatment team at Fox Chase. I am interested primarily in intensity modulated radiotherapy for patients with head and neck cancer. I am an advocate for providing individualized treatment plans for patients with head and neck cancer to minimize swallowing dysfunction and maximize outcomes.
